My Response
I was apprehensive to say the least about receiving my tutor feedback for assignment one! As with all my OCA courses, I follow one or two other student's good quality blogs to ensure I maintain a high standard with my work. I had seen what I thought were excellent photos taken for assignments being (constructively) criticized by the photography tutors, and was a little concerned my own work wouldn't 'make the grade' so to speak.
I needn't have worried, as my tutor feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with plenty of advice for future assignments. The opening paragraph reads:
An extremely well presented assignment with a thoughtful commentary that evidences good skills and visual discernment, forming a very effective base to develop from.
The comments for some of my images were more detailed than others. Many, such as 'Large', 'Smooth', 'Rough', and 'Transparent' were said to transmit well the sensation intended.
Much of the criticism of my images where it occurred related to post processing. I am aware this is a weak spot of mine, and the area in which I am least experienced. I will be looking at how I can train my skills in this area, and I have calibrated my monitor (which mostly resulted in a lowering of the brightness) to achieve more effective results in photoshop when processing my taken images.
My tutor was pleased with the written commentary for this assignment, and encouraged a continuation of this in future assignments. I was given advice on meeting and exceeding the assessment criteria, with further emphasis on producing images that are beyond a simple reproduction of the exercise brief. This takes much imagination, which is a large part of the reason I wanted to take this course; to improve my non-literal interpretation of a a subject or idea.
